This is a late war byf 44 full Kriegsmodell (war model) "L" block, which was the first block that started this whole Kriegs process. Most byf 44's show up as the standard versions, so it's a lot more desirable than your standard byf 44. For the people who don't know, Kriegsmodell versions are shortcuts that were given to these rifles to speed up production towards the end of the war. The bolt take down disc, bayonet lug, band spring and locking screws were taken down and a simplified version like the one you see was put in its place instead. Something about this rifle is that the "L" letter stamp was considered unusable towards the 80000 number, and had to use this lower case "l" instead. Might not mean much to most people, but to an avid collector it's a bit more unique. This rifle in particular is in nice shape, but it has a few problems. It's missing a screw in the rear band, not sure if the safety is a late war spare or incorrect, and it looks like someone took a saw to sling keeper to widen it. Unfortunate, but might be able to give to a professional to fill in the sling hole to make it look better. Other than that the bluing is in great shape and all the parts look period correct.
