ABOUT THE GUN

This is a Smith and Wesson 16-round, SIGMA Model SW40F in .40 S&W caliber. This particular gun was manufactured in 1994, the first year the model was available. It is new-in-the-box. It comes with the two original, 15-round magazines, but they are only available if the buyer is legally eligible to receive high capacity magazines. For all other buyers, a new Smith & Wesson 10-round magazine still in the factory plastic will be transferred with the gun. The gun comes with its factory case together with all paper work and a copy of the original bill of sale.

The SIGMA is the pistol that caused Glock to sue for patent infringement. Smith and Wesson was forced to cease manufacturing the SW40F and redesign the gun to avoid paying royalties and penalties. Thus the manufacturing run of the SW40F was cut short, although the SIGMA line continued with different variations until 2011.

The SW40F weighs 26 oz. It has a 4.5-inch barrel. The magazine is double-stacked and made of stainless steel. Factory magazines are still available directly from S&W and through their distributors. Sights are three-dot and windage-adjustable. The gun is striker-fired.

The Smith and Wesson SIGMA Model SW40F was born out of a law enforcement request for a more powerful sidearm, one that held more rounds than a revolver and was easier to reload under the stress of combat. When the 10 mm cartridge proved to have too much recoil for some FBI agents, Smith & Wesson joined with ammunition manufacturer, Winchester, to design a shorter, milder round that would fit in the former's 9mm-sized handguns and still offer plenty of punch. The SIGMA SW40F in .40 S&W caliber was the result.

The seller is the original owner of this gun. Its characteristics and unique history make it a must-have for any serious Smith & Wesson collector. Based on a controversial design, the Sigma SW40F was one of the first handguns specifically built for the then-new .40 S&W cartridge, and it was Smith and Wesson's first effort to offer a polymer handgun.

But for those interested in a shooter for personal or home defense, the SW40F can be a powerful defense weapon. Stoked with cutting edge ammunition like the Federal HST, the Remington Golden Saber, or Buffalo Bore ammo with Barnes XPB hollow points, the SW40F holding 16 rounds, or 11, is a formidable weapon to bring to any gun fight.

This gun will be sold with 100 rounds of quality range ammo: 50 rounds of PMC Bronze in 180 gr. fmj, and 50 rounds of Blazer Brass in 165 gr. fmj.
